CloudFlare
What is CloudFlare?
CloudFlare is a service that works between the domain registrar and the website hosting. Traffic to the website goes first to CloudFlare then to the web server. In the middle, CloudFlare caches parts of the website and returns these to the visitor - which saves time loading the page and can reduce the load on the web server. It can also be used as a web firewall - to protect the web server from attack.
How is it Used with Seggiano.com?
In the case of Netsuite, CloudFlare is particularly helpful caching some of the Javascript files which can slow the user experience down. It also caches images and the HTML code itself. All these things reduce the time it takes for a visitor to download the page. Until Netsuite sites are hosted locally (eg. in Europe/London for Seggiano.com), visitors are directed to servers in the US, adding lag to each connection. Therefore, anything that speeds up customer experience is helpful.
Are there any issues associated with CloudFlare?
Very occasionally it may experience a network issue and thus some slowness, however, this is far less common than an issue with the server.
When making changes to script and code, it may be necessary to switch on 'Development Mode' in CloudFlare. This temporarily disables caching, so changes can be seen immediately.
